May 6, 2015: Day One in the abandoned axe factory hadn’t gone as planned, so today is the first time the five members of Parsonsfield will actually get to make music here. They’d been looking forward to converting this cavernous industrial space on the banks of the Farmington River in Collinsville, CT, ever since singer/banjo player Chris Freeman, who grew up nearby, brought it to their attention. The idea of recording in such a reverberant, reactive space held great appeal after the past six months spent in Canada exclusively performing their critically acclaimed original songs for ‘The Heart Of Robin Hood,’ a musical that required them to wear in-ear monitors for eight shows a week in theaters designed to be sonically dead. They’ve got their amps and PA plugged in now, and there’s a faint layer of sawdust on top of all the gear. It’s nothing compared to yesterday, when they opened the doors for the first time and discovered sawdust an inch thick coating every imaginable surface. It was so bad they had to purchase respirators and devote the entire day to sweeping and vacuuming, trying to outwit the neighbor’s overzealous guard dog every time they came and went from the building… (read more)

Radiation exposure, long term weightlessness, low light, extensive communication delays and poor hygiene are just a few of the challenges Molly Jennis must face on her quest to be the first to Mars, but she soon finds nothing compares to the psychological effects of having so much time alone.

EL MAR is Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Joey Primero alongside a collective of New York City musicians. The Berklee College of Music graduate was born and raised in Miami, Florida, and comes from Colombian and Cuban-American decent. Originally from Portland, Maine, Kate Merrill has been developing and honing her sound in the New York City Music scene for the past several years. Her voice has been described as Sia meets Duffy. She is releasing her debut EP ‘Moving On’ in July, which features the single ‘Higher Place.’ ‘Moving On’ was written to signify the growth and changes of Kate as an artist throughout her time in New York City. Kate also works for a Denver based band called Style throughout the state of Colorado. Her performances around NYC include appearances at The Bowery Electric, The Bitter End, The Cutting Room, The Way Station, Union Hall, among others. Her EP release show will be held at Arlene’s Grocery in the Lower East Side of Manhattan in September. Kate’s music education began at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY where she earned credits as a Musical Theatre Major, with a concentration in Vocal Performance. She went on to graduate from Wagner College in 2009 with a B.S. in Arts Administration with a concentration in Music and Theater. She also studied under the classical voice instruction of Lynne Vardaman and Elizabeth McCullough.
