Originally performed for Brooklyn’s 2016 Northside Festival, and now being released as a full vinyl album, the band’s take on Serge Gainsbourg’s legendary Histoire De Melody Nelson functions as both tribute and critique. With their own Becca Kauffman –who apart from the group is known for her uncanny performance art persona, Jennifer Vanilla– taking on the role of Serge, and eccentric NYC comedian Lorelei Ramirez as Melody, Ava Luna offers a dark, humorous, and thoughtful retelling of this classic and controversial album, whose themes of objectification and power are rendered newly relevant by our current moment.
